Teresa Flint-Borden is passionate about serving people – from her immediate family, to God’s family, to needs of the entire human family. She expresses her dedication for relating in holistic ways that interweave creativity, grace, and humor.
As a social advocate, Teresa has received community recognition for her work with unwed mothers, cancer survivors, burn survivors and AIDS research and prevention. In the late 1990s, she embraced the role of advocate to clergy spouses and is becoming known as an expert-practitioner in this arena. She has mentored many women in the judicatory where her husband, Dr. Paul Borden, serves as Executive Minister. He leads churches in his region to adopt systemic change, and Teresa has observed the difficult impact that such dramatic “turnaround church transformation” often has on women in ministry and ministry families.
As her advocacy expanded for those who lead transition out of dysfunctional church systems, Teresa drew more deeply on her own experiences of discipleship, entrepreneurship, and family relationships. This resulted in her book, Women Married to Men in Ministry: Breaking the Sound Barrier Together (Abingdon Press, 2007). Using the book’s aeronautics analogy, moving toward “Mach 10 Ministry” means that women in ministry and/or married to men in ministry are essentially co-pilots; together they must face the critical realities of systemic church change. However, turnaround churches can only be led successfully by those willing to be transformed themselves. So, Teresa brings fresh insight for renewed meaning, purpose, and positive self-development. Turnaround leaders need this as they encounter deep personal and social struggles that threaten soma, soul, spirit, and relationships.
Teresa embraces much in life beyond her roles in social and ministry advocacy. She is a fourth-generation female business entrepreneur, with over 30 years experience as a business owner. She pioneered the first para-medical day spa in Colorado. With 25 employees and 2,500 clients each month, her business became a pacesetter for standards in para-medical day spas, serving clients on a whole-person basis. Teresa received several Chamber of Commerce Business awards for her business work, and was also named Outstanding Business Woman of the Year.
Always seeking to broaden her repertoire of whole-person ministry approaches, Teresa recently began offering a therapeutic practice based on the Scripture, “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” She invested 12 hours a day for three full months in being trained, and then adapted this into NTR2 – short for Neuro-Transformation Relaxation Response. NTR2 is demonstrating itself in significant relief from stress and pain on multiple levels for all kinds of individuals - ministry professionals, caregivers, and corporation stress relief programs & anyone interested in a more abundant life.
Teresa also currently serves part-time as a consultant to non-profit organizations, a certified facilitator on personal change and transition, and a teacher/trainer on personal assessment tools and other topics. She created and leads Women of the Word, a non-profit agency designed to empower disadvantaged women. And, as a historical interpreter, Flint-Borden has developed such dramatic presentations as, “Giving Biblical Women a Voice.” “The five grandmothers of Christmas”
She is the mother of two creative, talented children, and a grandmother. Teresa resides in Northern California.
